Every year on Katie’s birthday, I write a little post in honor of her big day. Every year I fight back the tears. And each year it gets a little harder because I miss her so much. I am writing this post a day early since I’ll be out of the office tomorrow so it should be easier since today isn’t her actual birthday right? :)
I cannot believe that my baby sister is turning 25. Do younger siblings reach an age when you stop calling them “baby”. Probably not in my case. She still just seems so little to me but, in all actuality, she is a grown woman. Who is now halfway to 50. I had to do it sis…had to!
Katie–I want to thank you for everything you have done for me and continue to do for me. My trips back to Omaha would not be complete without a night out on the town with you. You keep this old lady feeling young and always make it a point for me to have a good time while I’m back. I love you to pieces and am so lucky to call you my sister, but more importantly my closest friend! I love you so much!!!!!

In honor of your birthday I am dedicating this song to you. 1. Because you have always been the little “firework” in the family and not just because your birthday is so close to the 4th but 2. Because I feel like this song totally fits your personality. Whenever I hear it I think of you.
“You’re original, can’t be replaced”
“Boom boom boom even brighter than the moon moon moon…its always been inside of you, you, you”
“Make em’ go ah ah ah…you’re gonna leave em all in awe, awe, awe”
\”Firework\” by Katy Perry—on Youtube
You will have to click on the above link to listen because for some reason I can’t embed videos into my blog.

I must first start off by saying that Kandis of Wish Photography is an absolute superstar!! In the short time I’ve known her via the Internet, I have built a super strong bond with her! We are pbffs (photography best friends forever) as she likes to say! :) Its so fabulous getting to meet someone who shares the love of photography as much if not more than you while becoming instant friends. She is also very encouraging and knows just what to say on days when I’ve been in a slump. I know that she is like this towards everyone though. I’ve seen it. She is super helpful and wants to share her talents by teaching others. I really admire her for that!
I recently was introduced to her actions on a whim and fell in love instantly. Through my eyes, her actions have taken my photos to another level. I feel like they are now little pieces of protrait art. Head over to Wish Workshops and check out her amazing actions. Lots of before and after shots. Then head over to the Wish Workshops blog and buy them! Do it! You won’t regret it!
She also has lots of how to videos that explain and demonstrate how to use her actions.
As if I haven’t enticed you enough, then you need to check out the workshop she is holding this summer in the gorgeous Park City, UT. I feel that workshops and education is so important in our industry. Digital photography is continuing to evolve and having a fresh perspective and new knowledge is super important. I have made it a goal to attend at least 2 workshops/trainings per year. The Wish Retreat will be one of them for me this year. I also feel that its super important to be inspired. I can say from experience that surrounding yourself with other people in the industry in a learning environment is SUPER valuable. Not only is the new knowledge super important, but the confidence I have gained after leaving past workshops has really pushed me forward as far as growth. Plus, its so great getting to make new friends and contacts. I love meeting new friends! You can check out more info about the Wish Retreat on Kandis’ blog found here. Also, check out the flier below. SUCH a great price for a weekend retreat from someone who has excelled and knows as much as she does about photography. Oh, and check out this eye candy. The cabin we will be staying in can be found here:

I must say that I am SO excited to get to be a part of this weekend! I am counting down the days and hope that time goes by fast! Thanks so much for putting on this retreat Kandis. You are such a gem and I’m so excited to get to soak up your expertise!
