From time to time, I like to give little glimpses into my life here on my blog. Not only do I think it’s important to hire someone who’s photography you admire, but someone you also like as a person. I feel that showing you these little glimpses is a way for those who have never met me to find out a little more about me. For those of you who have met me for the first time on a shoot, bless your little hearts for continuing to talk with me afterwards. On my shoots, you get what you see. I act dorky, I laugh way too loud, I fall and trip a lot, I always misplace my keys, and I usually act really girlie and squeal over the images I preview quick in camera! I am me though. And being who I truly am is so important to me.
So, to clear things up, I am sharing a photo of one of the smaller wall spaces in my home. This little wall makes me smile every time I look at it and I hold these little prints so dear to my heart. Since moving to Utah, I am frequently asked about where I’m from and which state I am currently living in. I travel a lot for work and spend a lot of time away.
Utah is currently where I call home. I moved here in March of 2010. I love it here! A lot! It is such a beautiful place. I don’t think I could not live in the mountains ever again. How did I end up here? I met my husband in college and this is where he is originally from. It was always such a fun place to visit in the summers, but now I am so happy to call it my home.
Iowa is where I was born and raised. I grew up on a farm. We raised pigs, cows, chickens, ducks, turkeys, sheep, & horses. We also had a dog and lots and lots of kitties! I was crazy about kitties as a little girl! I was actually crazy about most of our animals–maybe not the cows. We had the largest family garden that I have still ever known, lots of open fields and thick timbers that my sister, brother, and I would escape too every day growing up. We lived at the bottom of a hill and many nights in the summer my sister and I would ride to the top and then fly down on our bikes with no hands. I don’t think I tipped or fell off of it even once. In the winter we would ice-skate on our family pond, and sneak away to fish at it in the summer when mom and dad were at work. We weren’t supposed to but they never knew! It was such a great life. I will forever love the outdoors because of it and have plenty of barbed wire scars on my legs and arms to remind me of my childhood.
Nebraska is where I lived for 4 years before moving to Utah. I moved to Omaha after I graduated from college. It was a much larger city but I was so ready for a change and so excited. I met some of the best people in my life while living there. Friends that I know I will have until the day I die. Moving away from Omaha was the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. I still miss it every day but am so lucky to go back at least every couple of months. Those friends I mentioned…when I go back its as if we never skipped a beat. I am so lucky to have them and am so excited to have them come and visit Utah this summer. My baby sis is in Omaha too. We lived together for our first year in Omaha and grew from sisters to close friends. I miss her the most and have tried my hardest to get her to move out here but have come to the reality that she is forever a Nebraska girl! :) Just another reason for me to go back.
These three places are all home. I seriously cannot pick just one. Each one of this is “home” to me. I think home is not only a place but also a feeling. Thank you so much to all of my friends and family back in Iowa and Nebraska for always welcoming me back “home” with so my love. You make it hard for me to leave and I miss you every day. For those of you in Utah, thank you so much for making me feel welcome and letting me plant some roots and grow here. I am so lucky to have a few close friends, another family who I absolutely adore, and such super great clients here in the Beehive State! My life is truly blessed!
Happiness,
Amy

Also, I ordered these prints a couple of months ago on Etsy.com from a little store called q.a. design. I know she is super busy and I think her Etsy account me be shut down for the moment, but you can check out some of her other design work foud here. Funny little thing, until I got my prints in the mail, I didn’t realize that she too, lives in Utah. :)

I treated myself! I’ve booked 4 weddings in the last 22 days and decided with all of the running I’ll be doing in the days to come, that I needed to get a pair of comfortable shoes. Finding dressy but comfortable shoes for wedding days is so hard! It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I stumbled across these sparkle TOMS and knew these would be it. I’ve looked at their shoes before but the sparkle ones are so going to be perfect with tights and a skirt! I think I’m going to have to get a canvas pair to wear on all of my other shoots as well!
If you haven’t heard about TOMS before then you need to check out their site. This company is all about giving back! For every pair of shoes sold, they donate a pair to children in need. Read more about the movement here on the TOMS website! And don’t be surprised if I show up to your wedding wearing these this year!
Happiness,
Amy

Meet Paul & Jenn, my first ever wedding couple since living in Utah. These two are perfect for each other and have been so great getting to know. I thanked God for blessing my first big event in a new place with such a happy, sweet, and deeply in love couple! It gave me a little bit of comfort and felt like home. I know that may sound strange, but up until now, everything I’ve shot in Utah has been non wedding related. Ive gone home quite a bit in the last year and its been to shoot weddings.
Anyway, on to these two love birds…I hope these photos make you swoon like they do me. Congrats you two! So excited for your big day!

Huge “thank you” to Andee T. of Crave Photography for sharing this location with me. It was exactly what Paul and Jenn were looking for…
